UNAIDS Executive Director commends Chinese government for its bold leadership on AIDS

UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé met with Chinese Vice-Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing as part of a two-day official visit to the country. Mr Sidibé acknowledged the significant progress achieved by the Chinese government since his last visit in December 2011 and highlighted the importance of sustained commitment to the AIDS response during, and following China’s upcoming leadership transition.
Thailand launches new AIDS strategy to ‘Get to Zero’

United States Congressional Staff first-hand view of Zambia’s AIDS response

A delegation of nine United States Congressional staff members travelled to Zambia from 18 – 24 February. UNDP and UNAIDS Leaders Begin High Level Joint Mission in New Zealand

Zimbabwe: AIDS levy generates new resources for treatment

An additional 70 000 Zimbabweans living with HIV will get access to anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment by the end of 2012, using the country’s National AIDS Trust Fund. This announcement by the Zimbabwe National AIDS Council is a welcome sign for a country that has some 1.2 million adults and children living with HIV in 2009.

New government of Libya identifies AIDS as a priority

A Libyan delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Adel M. Abushoffa met with UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé on 24 January at UNAIDS headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Unparalleled global progress in HIV response but sustained investment vital

Global progress in both preventing and treating HIV emphasizes the benefits of sustaining investment in HIV/AIDS over the longer term. The latest report by the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and UNAIDS "Report on the Global HIV/AIDS Response" indicates that increased access to HIV services resulted in a 15% reduction of new infections over the past decade and a 22% decline in AIDS-related deaths in the last five years.
