UNAIDS welcomes new UN Security Council resolution on HIV and preventing sexual violence in conflict

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) welcomes a new United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution on HIV which has been adopted at the UN Security Council in New York. The resolution calls for increased efforts by UN Member States to address HIV in peacekeeping missions. It also calls for HIV prevention efforts among uniformed services to be aligned with efforts to end sexual violence in conflict and post-conflict settings.
UN Economic and Social Commission in Asia and Pacific members adopt new Resolution on HIV ahead of High Level Meeting on AIDS

In the lead-up to the 2011 General Assembly High Level Meeting on AIDS to take place in New York from 8-10 June, the 62 Members and Associate Members of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission in Asia and the Pacific have unanimously adopted a new Resolution on HIV.
New manual and workbook for costing HIV facilities and services in countries aims to standardize data collection to improve planning

To help countries monitor and evaluate the economic aspects of HIV service provision, UNAIDS has produced a generic HIV facility costing document titled Manual for Costing HIV Facilities and Services and an accompanying workbook entitled Workbook for collection of Cost Information of HIV Services.

A new initiative “Combating AIDS in GCC countries” was hosted by the Minister of Health of Saudi Arabia, Dr Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Rabeeah and the Health Ministers Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states on 16-18 April in Riyadh. This initiative is a call for collaborative approach to keep HIV prevalence low in the GCC countries and re-affirms the political commitment of the council to respond effectively to AIDS.

Thirty years into the AIDS epidemic, investments in the AIDS response are yielding results, according to a new report released today by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Titled Uniting for universal access: towards zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths, the report highlights that the global rate of new HIV infections is declining, treatment access is expanding and the world has made significant strides in reducing HIV transmission from mother to child.
