
Princess Stephanie of Monaco, UNAIDS International Goodwill Ambassador
Her Serene Highness Princess Stephanie of Monaco, passionate in the fight against AIDS and mother of three, has been President of ‘Fight AIDS Monaco’ since 2004. The organization has three focus areas: information, prevention and support to people living with and affected by HIV.
For three decades, Princess Stephanie has advocated for the rights of people living with HIV on the international stage to ensure that their voice is heard, and they have access to life-saving treatment.
On the 6th of October 2006, Princess Stephanie was named as a Special Representative for UNAIDS. She is today a Goodwill Ambassador for this institution. The princess represented Monaco at the High-Level Meeting on AIDS in New York in June 2006 where she expressed her personal commitment to the AIDS response. As UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador she focuses on raising awareness on HIV prevention and the negative impact of discrimination against people living with HIV.
On the 26th of June 2010, Princess Stephanie inaugurated, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, her brother, the "Maison de Vie" ("House of Life"), she created a safe space - a care home called ‘Maison de Vie’ which literally means a "house of Life". This facility provides a supportive environment where people living with HIV can regain confidence and rebuild their lives without fear of judgment. This unique establishment has welcomed since December 2010 people living with HIV to enable them to rest, to have a break and to take some time out from the difficulties of daily life, so as to help them restart their lives.
On 13th of June 2024, Fight AIDS Monaco along with Coalition Plus formed the Yes Women gala which celebrates the celebrates the often-overlooked achievements of women in the fight to end AIDS. Princess Stephanie presented awards to six women working across HIV scientific research, civil society and business. These women in turn honored H.S.H for her long-standing dedication to the fight against HIV.
In October 2024, Princess Stephanie carried out a successful mission to Madagascar with UNAIDS executive Director Winnie Byanyima.
Fight Aids Monaco not only supports people living with HIV in Monaco but also funds projects in Madagascar, Burundi, South Africa, Mauritius, Ukraine, Lebanon, Morrocco. In 2024, Fight AIDS Monaco celebrated twenty years of existence.
