The Red Ribbon Award is the world’s leading award on innovative and outstanding community work in the AIDS response. On Wednesday 25 July, awards will be given to ten organizations that have shown outstanding community leadership and action on AIDS. The five award categories are:
- Prevention of sexual transmission
- Prevention among/by people who use drugs
- Treatment care and support
- Advocacy and human rights
- Stopping new HIV infections in children and keeping mothers alive; women's health.
The selected community organizations will benefit from international visibility and will be invited to participate in the XIX International AIDS Conference. There will be a Special Session of the Conference devoted to recognizing the Red Ribbon Award Winners for 2012, featuring addresses by HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé, Nobel Prize Winner Aung San Suu Kyi (by video message), US Congressman Jim McDermott, Minister of Health and Social Affairs of France, Marisol Touraine and other leaders in the response to AIDS.
