On Saturday, 21 July UNAIDS is teaming up with partners to host a soccer and basketball tournament around the theme of “Uniting for an AIDS-free Generation”.
Young people from the local Washington area will join with young people from developing countries, high-level officials and sporting stars to learn more about HIV and create a social movement around the youth and HIV.
In addition to the soccer and basketball tournaments, there will be a flash mob focused on stigma, a ShoutOut competition, onsite HIV counselling and testing, a raffle and sports workshops on HIV run by high profile celebrities, including players from the NBA and other athletes.
Partnering in the event are; the DC Health Department (HASTA); the World Bank; The Grassroot Project; Metro TeenAIDS; Soccer for Good; the Magic Johnson Foundation; Monumental Sports; Ragball International; Youth Core, Advocates for Youth; Youth Force; and the local conference planning committee AIDS2012.
